Combined PhD and Consultant Position for research in the Circular Economy

BMI Lab AG and the Chair of Strategic Management of Prof. Dr. Karolin Frankenberger offer

a combined PhD and Consulting Position at, respectively, the University of St. Gallen and the BMI Lab AG.

The position is linked to the PhD studies in Business Administration and will be under supervision of Prof. Karolin Frankenberger. The focus of your future activities lies in the scientific and practical examination of the topic Circular Business Model Innovation and the Circular Economy.

Supervising courses, writing of publications for international journals and interaction and cooperation with the BMI Lab and corporate partners will be important activities in this position.

We are looking for a motivated candidate with:

  • A master’s degree in business administration (or similar subject area) with excellent grades
  • A strong interest and experience in scientific working methods (e.g. in the master thesis)
  • An exceptional interest and proven track record of working in the field of sustainable business models and the circular economy
  • Above-average analytical skills and an interest in theoretical and conceptual tasks
  • Acquisition skills and the ability to build and manage relationships with corporates
  • Strong team working skills
  • Willingness to travel (primarily between Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands)
  • Fluent English is required (oral and written), good knowledge of German and Dutch is favourable

Your main activities:

  • Assisting in the organisation of courses; supervision of Bachelor/Master theses; development of examination questions, examination corrections, associated administrative and organisational tasks
  • Challenging research according to international standards (basic and applied research)
  • Creating and managing research partnerships
  • Writing of scientific publications and participation in international conferences
  • Participating in consulting projects in cooperation with BMI Lab
  • Building and managing of a work group or knowledge sharing platform with private sector companies and research institutions
